TP1 completely redesigns the TVA Nouvelles website native applications

MONTREAL, November 10, 2015 – A completely revamped multiplatform user experience and refreshed design for the TVA Nouvelles online news website.

TVA Nouvelles, one of the most popular news sources in Quebec, wanted a redesign of its interface in order to better meet the ever-evolving needs of its audience. Full-service agency TP1 was entrusted with the mandate to completely reinvent the multiplatform user experience and build online tools for the news network.

The new website plays on the network’s strengths to “deliver news first” and provide high-quality regional news. Since TVANouvelles.ca is increasingly viewed on mobile devices, the new website was built using responsive design to better adapt content to screen size and infinite scrolling to simplify navigation.

There was also the challenge of addressing the needs of advertisers and finding innovative ways to maximize the visibility of ad space, without compromising access to content. The decision to have a monetized multiplatform was at the heart of the strategic process, influencing the design, as well as the content strategy plan.

Another notable aspect: “hot” headlines are now displayed in dynamic features. These chronological features contain all articles and reports on the same subject, enabling readers to see the bigger picture, understand how the event unfolded and follow updates as they happen.

“The website and applications fulfill the needs of users and those of our business partners,” stated Jean-Luc Sanscartier, Director, Digital Content, Groupe TVA. “This personalized environment has abundant media opportunities and is the happy result of close collaboration with TP1’s strategic teams; their expertise truly drove the evolution of this project.”

Rethinking the applications
The native applications for Apple and Android were completely reinvented to offer a more refined user experience and to address the specific needs and expectations of smartphone and tablet users. In the newsfeed, articles are displayed in reverse chronological order and content is edited down to better appeal to busy people. A user can now get a quick overview of daily news items at a glance.

“Creating a digital platform that is consulted by hundreds of thousands of Québécois every day was a challenge, but it was also a golden opportunity to showcase the skills that we’ve been building in recent years,” added Jan-Nicolas Vanderveken, President, TP1. “The teams at TVA Nouvelles and Netco Sports, who ensured the technological aspects of the platforms, successfully and masterfully made our strategy and design a reality.”
